It's OFFICIAL!! Dwarfism Awareness Month

On Wednesday, October 24, Assemblymember Jared Huffman presented a resolution (ACR 152) to members of Little People of America, declaring the month of October as “Dwarfism Awareness Month” to raise public awareness about people with dwarfism and their contributions to the State of California.

Caty, Hanna and I were there along with my mom, Cameron (the baby that I watch) and her mom Jen (who came over from her work for the presentation), and several of our LPA friends for the presentation.  I kinda expected there to be more members there but I understand that it's a little hard for those that were working since it took place at 11:00.

Sponsored by Little People of America, a national support organization based in California for people with dwarfism and their families, ACR 152 draws attention to this rare medical condition that affects an estimated 3,500 people in California and over 30,000 people in the United States.

Since 2009, LPA has been recognizing October as Dwarfism Awareness Month with the intention of raising positive awareness around dwarfism, addressing common misconceptions and increasing opportunities for people with dwarfism around the country.  Up until this year 6 states - Delaware, New York, Missouri, Indiana, Michigan and Oklahoma have declared October Dwarfism Awareness Month.  California, Maryland and South Carolina have joined the numbers this year.
