Welcome to my blog!

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and visit! We hope to share with you our journey of raising a child with Achondroplasia, the most common type of dwarfism. If this is your first time here, please start by reading Caitlyn's Story. It will share the beginning of her life with you. Enjoy!

Our Preschool Graduate

It’s so hard to believe that Caitlyn graduated from Preschool last Friday.  She truly enjoyed going, even with some of the issues that she had.  Her first day of preschool was back on September 16th 2008.  Remember how she wouldn’t eat snack for most of the first year – no problem there anymore.

Ms Maggie, the director of the preschool, talked about each of the children.  She started with Caitlyn and has such wonderful things to say about her.  She thanked us for trusting them with her.  We can’t wait until Hanna turns 3 to be able to join them!

She had this funny smirk on her face the whole time – not sure why, she looked like she was mad, but said that she wasn’t.

Caty and some of her friends

We also received the wonderful news that Caitlyn got accepted into the Dry Creek School District and will be attending Antelope Meadows Elementary School with most of her preschool friends.  We had put in for an interdistrict transfer back in February.  I called over the district office for our home school in the beginning of May to see if they had released Caitlyn.  They said “yes we released her as of March 4” – and I replied, “and you didn’t think to inform us?”  “nope that’s the new school districts business now”  Ok – whatever!  So I called over the Dry Creek office and found out that they would be making their decisions during that week.  We finally received a letter in the mail about 2 weeks ago, letting us know that Caitlyn had been accepted.  Such a relief.  We’re so happy that she will be able to continue on with many of her preschool friends – the acceptance has already been established over the past 2 years.  I turned in a letter to the staff with her registration packet introducing Caty.  I used one of the sample letters from the POLP group and will use the other  to pass out to the parents of her classmates once school starts.  One of Caty’s preschool friends moms is a teacher at Antelope Meadows, and she let me know that the letter was read and passed out to all of the staff at the latest staff meeting.  Kellie said that everyone is so excited to have Caitlyn as part of their school.

We’re looking forward to the first day of kindergarten with is August 10th.

She's too cute with that little mortar-board cap! Great pics! And how cool that you got the transfer approved, I'm sure it'll be a great help to Caty to have her friends going to Kindy with her!

Great pictures! She is just the cutest. I too am in a kindergarten quandry-the school Pres willgo to will have none of his classmates now, but I can put him in aftercare and then he gets a waiver into the school where some of his classmates are---and I am still kicking around private school. It's such huge decision we all make for our kids.
I am so proud of Caty! I am so happy to have been a part of reading about all of her preschool adventures!
