Our "Accelerated Reader”

Caty’s teacher called me aside last week after school and let me know that Caty has tested as an “accelerated reader”.  We’re so super proud of her!  We knew she was reading well and now she gets to be part of the Accelerated Reader program at school.  I guess that Kindergartners aren’t usually included in the AR program but Caty and one of her  kinder buddy’s were!
Here’s a video (sorry it’s so long – it was a long book) of her reading one of the two books that she brought home.  Pinocchio is an AR 1.2 level book.  The 1.2 means that it’s 1st grade, 2 months into the school year.  This video was taken on the day she brought the books home.  She’d never seen it before.  The other book is called Pal and Sal and it’s a 1.4 AR level.

Today she had to return the books and take a test on the computer about the books.  I can’t wait to hear how she does and for her to get two more books tomorrow at the library.
She’s AWESOME!!!

That is wonderful Jaime. So proud of her! I have to show Aidan this. Ash does AR too. She's at middle school level reading. Her math is very advanced too. Aidan on the other hand.... um...I have my work cut out for me. He is not quite as disciplined and is much lazier than his older sister. In fact, one of the moms in Aidan's class pulled me aside and told me the other day that she asked for Aidan to write his name down on an assignment they were doing and he told her he didn't know how (which he does) and his teacher overheard the conversation....an well....let's just say...he brought home a book entitled "the Berenstein Bears the Truth". Oh, and I get emailed test results on Ashleigh's AR quizes she does on the computer so you should be able to get them emailed to you too.

That is so wonderful Miss Caty! We do AR here in Washington too. Great program for getting started reading and getting the most out of books.
