Welcome to my blog!

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and visit! We hope to share with you our journey of raising a child with Achondroplasia, the most common type of dwarfism. If this is your first time here, please start by reading Caitlyn's Story. It will share the beginning of her life with you. Enjoy!

I know, I'm a SLACKER!!

So it's been awhile since my last post, not counting the recipe one, I thought I'd catch you up on a few things.

I'm now 27 weeks pregnant. We had our ultrasound done to check on little missy to see how she's growing. She's growing just as she should be, even slightly ahead. When I had the ultrasound done on March 2nd, I was one day shy of 25 weeks, well she measured at 26 weeks and a few days and at 2 lbs already. Her limbs are growing as they should be, which is what we expected. Now with Caitlyn, the chance of her being a dwarf was 1 in 25,000. If you've previously had a dwarf child, then your odds are slightly, and very slightly, higher - a .02% chance higher - which is nothing. But we figured we'd have the ultrasound done anyways just to check it out. I've been feeling good, except just being tired and some congestion lately due to seasonal allergies. We're hoping to get working on Caty's new room in the next couple of weeks. We decided to move her, as her room is already set up to match the crib set, between the colors on the wall and the wallpaper border, why do it all over again. So Caty will be moving into what is now our office. We've got to find a small corner computer desk to fit into our living room/dining room, then we can start the process of moving stuff out. We've only got less than 3 months to make this happen and we are hoping to get Caty moved into hew new room sometime in May. That's about it on the baby front.

If you'll remember, those of you on Facebook, that Caty had her annual check-up at the Skeletal Dysplasia Clinic back about a month ago. We got the write up from the doctors the other day and all looks well with her, which we already knew. Okay, everything is good, except for the fluid in her ears. We've met with an ENT and she will be getting tubes on April 9th. We're hoping that this will make a significant improvement in her speech and her continuously saying "HUH?" Besides that there really isn't much else to share about her visit. She weighs in at 25 lbs and is just under 30 inches tall. My mom met us there and luckily we were only in the exam room for about an hour. Nothing like spending 3.5 hours driving to spend an hour with the doctors. But hey, it's very reassuring to hear from the specialists that she's doing great.

Not much else is going on with us. We've just been keeping busy and filling our days with different activities. Hope that all is well with everyone!

I think I can top you...we drive 5 hours to Delaware to see Dr. Bober for 30 minutes! But it's always reassuring to hear "He's doing great," and I'd make the drive any day for peace of mind. Glad to hear all is well on the baby front! And please feel free to use that awesome pasta recipe for a post...I'm salivating now just thinking about it!!

I am so glad to hear that your pregnancy is going nice and smooth! 27 weeks already?! It's always faster when it's somebody else that's pregnant! We wish Caty the best of luck with her appointment for tubes! From what I understand it's a very quick procedure! I'm glad the rest of her specialist appointment went well, that's great news! Yep, gotta love driving all that way for a quick checkup! We drive about 3 hours to see Dr. Ain in Baltimore. I think the ride home feels longer!

Jaime, Glad to hear that all is well with you and the baby. Also glad to hear that Caty is doing well. Tori had tubes put in not quite a year ago and although I was very nervous about the whole thing...it went very well. Hope it all goes well for Caty too.

Glad to hear about the pregnancy. Looks like Baby is doing excellent. Yay. I am confident that the tubes will help. As you saw, Liz just had hers, and I really think her hearing has improved. We still need to do the hearing tests...just to make sure, though. She still says: "I can't hear you," once in awhile, but not nearly as much as she did before!

Wow - 27 weeks already! I'm so glad that the baby is doing great and that you are feeling good, aside from being tired and congested some. I definitely understand the tiredness - I think Simon helps out with that though too. :)
Good luck with getting Caty's new room ready! We are moving Simon into a new room in a few months too for the same reason.
I'm so glad that Caty's annual check-up went well! Good luck with the tubes in a few weeks! Simon hears so much better since he got his tubes put in last year.
Happy 4th Birthday, Caty!

I cannot believe Caty is FOUR! I am so happy to hear all is going well with the pregnancy! I cannot believe you don't have much longer to go. I cannot wait to see pictures of the new rooms! So much fun! The tube procedure is a piece of cake. You open a magazine and they are calling you into recovery. I just found out today it looks like Preston's first set are starting to come out after almost 16 months! caty's check up sounds great! 25 pounds-I wish porker weighed in at 32 today (with his shoes on). It scares me because with not growing as fast I worry about his weight. The thing is he is very active, but he still has the stomach of an AH three year old. It's such a hard thing! I try healthy snacks only but his appetite cannot be surpressed.
Anyway I am rambling-I hope you continue to feel great!

I'm glad things are going well with your pregnancy. It's hard to believe you're already 27 wks! I hope the tubes go well with Caty. I'm sure you'll see a huge improvement with her hearing and speech. Best of luck!!!

I've got the same problem! Most everybody is on Facebook and gets most of the news there, so I forget to post half the time! I need to do one soon about how much Caitlin is walking though... Maybe having said that here will be enough to coerce me into doing it... LOL
